BBS Varnamala 37 – Key Stage I – a foundation

Key Stage I (KS-I) is a foundation. Here the basic of Indian scripts, concept and logic are explored and explained. On the surface it just a fun but a well-planned framework and milestone for each session.  The foundation is targeted and limited to writing and reading the script. As it is a mechanical process does not matter whether you understand or not. It is scripting, let it be Sanskrit, Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam, Telegu or even Spanish, French or English. You listen and you script. Mechanical part is like playing with LEGO blocks.  The selected script of Devanagari supports Sanskrut, Hindi and Marathi speaking families. KS-I is not linked with any language as particular and the medium of teaching being the English stands as a standalone model. The concept is simply applicable to all Indian scripts. The KS-I can be rolled out in any script based on the future aspiration of the kids and majority of the class.

KS- I is based on five themes which makes the foundation so strong that in 10 weeks’ 10 hrs time one can Read and Write. KS-I in itself is a key achievement if one does not want to progress further. The initiation is done the seeds are sown.

You will surprise to see the result at fifth class of the course. Off course its all our teachers efforts to drive the students through pre-planned logical steps. This is the news of last week from Ilford – UK class.

With the scripts children feels associated with everything in India. The strange or unseen becomes familiar. A channel is created. They are equipped with the tools for themselves to explore. A KS-I develops the taste as it seems overruns other foreign scripts in logic. And it is accepted by choice and not by force.
