We introduced diagraph as a friendship in our last class. Now imagine a friendship with a 6 months baby. When it comes to a baby no rule works. Even the shape of letter (R) in Devnagari is such that it can not stand its own geometrically. That gave me an idea to introduce it as a baby in the family of letters.
Case R1 – If this Master R is with broken leg ( pure consonant) and making friendship with an adult then what do you think the adult will do? It will lift the R on his shoulder. ( e.g Ark)
Case R2- If an adult with broken leg making friendship with a normal baby ‘R’ then the adult can’t lift him up as his leg is broken. Rather it will prefer to hold the baby close to his leg. (e.g Akra)
Case R3 – We know from our earlier class that is premature state of . It is considered as a vowel. I introduced it as an infant who just started. So if a broken leg adult comes next to him. He will crawl at his leg. (e.g. Akru)
if we see it together with an example for each it is much clear as follows.
I gave some familiar words to the children to try. Pram, Mark, Cruel etc to try with and ask for few more to find out themselves. The class room was mad with Rrrr……
And I had done with the maximum difficult part (to say) of Devanagari script. My students are ready to read and write now.
From the start, I counted in total, its 8 hrs (20 mins session each) I taught in the classroom without any homework. That was my struggle altogether and the result was astonishing!
I can probably bet with anyone if any other foreign script on this planet earth can be taught in this much less time to read and write and that to the 4 to 14 years kids without any background.
