Few years back with my four year son I was searching a way to introduce him to the Indian scripts abroad. The time was running fast with his age. With all story told before I realised that the success was just a four step up from where I was standing. I remember on foreign land this is still a challenge. But the logical approach and confident lead me and my class to a level where we started enjoying it. Once the taste is developed I had to show what they can achieve with this. This learning of Indian script was circumscribing what they are learning in the school. I could guess in a good sense why Grammar (Vyakaran) is one limb of our Knowledge system (Veda).
Lets get back to our class. Till now we have achieved three milestones. To recap, we introduced base vibrations – Swara ( Vowels), Striking notes – Vyanjana ( Consonants). Then we noticed what happens when a pure consonant meets to any of the Swara ( Vowels). Now we will see what will happen if a Pure consonant meets with another consonant. I call it a Friendship.
Two friends holding their hands that’s how I see them.
If any letter is holding a stick in his hand then it becomes a barrier to make friendship. First one who wants to make friendship with any consonant has to drop the stick if he got one. Few are so easy-go nature that they do not have any barrier at first place. You will see them in the picture. If any letter got stick ( shown in red) to his right will drop. Then they walk shoulder to shoulder.
The diagraph is generally written attached because they do not have anybody in between, not a single vowel. We can write it without attaching them. To show the first one is pure its leg is shown broken if not attached. This concept of diagraph is well developed in Indian script. It reminds us of space saver vacuum cloth storage bags. You can zip a large amount of letters. You can unzip it again logically. This gives us a compression option.
Another low carbon footprint!
How to pronounce it. Take a dummy preferably for time being. Pronounce three letters separately once. on next round pronounce three letters again but this time accelerating the second letter after . It is simple but need to explain properly so that they will not make mistake.
Cleverly one of my student picked up the mistake I did in the RED sticks above in ‘Fa’ !
