My classroom is multi-linguistic. It is a linguistic class of whole India, almost. The alphabetical song is loaded in their memory well by now. To show that the framework of Indian Scripts are the same, I presented mapping of few scripts in the classroom as below. Children could identify not only the Devanagari or own mother-tongue but any other scripts and any random letter. The framework of Indian phonetics and scripts are the same. The patterns/ designs are different. One can create his/her own pattern and use it. Now kids could guess why India could create so many scripts. We find very few intermittent letters added or omitted in few scripts. I have shown few below.
It is not the just the languages but we find all other areas of Indian culture got a common framework if we study it in detail. My classroom was getting integrated. They got many question for me to answer now. Are these scripts different from Sanskrut? Can we use these scripts to write any foreign languages? Can we map these to all foreign languages? What language does computer understand? etc. etc. My task was getting difficult but I left it for my future sessions to answer with more study.
For now the mapping showed the Alphabetical integration of Indian Scripts. I felt it to be important mile-stone when one is teaching Indian Languages. When someone from other country sees so many Indian scripts and dialect, it is obvious for him to get confused and make his own opinion about it. What can happen with the children who are born and brought up away from India? If their initial impression is not properly nurtured then how one would be able to connect them to Indian culture and knowledge bank in future? and more important to integrate them with all.
