My language classroom had representation from many States of India and we were talking about mother-tongue. What collaborative approach can we adoor to introduce bharatiy letters from one platform? I had to stand on Himalayan peak to see and show the commonality of Bharatiy linguistic across so many States. Each State is too vast to compare with any other country or even the States within. Kids in the classroom nended to have a rough idea of the scale we were dealing with. To give an idea of the area covered by bharatiy bhasha I would just say one U.P. state = U.K. Country in size. You can imagine the dynamics needed for my classroom to integrate. Indian Swara – Vowels are the same across many States. It has unity in diversity. Unity in phonetics and diversity in designs / patterns. This is the beauty in diversity. The framework is the same throughout. You can map on each other and read the mind of other State. I am trying to teach bhasha, not in particular but as in general. The classroom of multi-dialects felt the ownership and internal uniqueness. These vowels are going to be the ornaments of the consonants hence need to be dealt in detail. How many vowel designs do we see in major scripts of the world? To create these many vowels, the present Latin script will need to take support of two patterns of vowels. E.g. two E in Keep, OU in Soup, NG in King Etc. Similarly ay, ee, ea, ie, ei, oo, ou. ow, oe, oo, ue, ey, ay, oy, oi, au, aw are used in pair of vowels to represent one sound. Can’t we have one design for it? More can be done to enhance these Roman alphabets. My students think. If they understand the programming of it, they can create their own script. This is the reason India got so many scripts (about 41) That is what I encourage them to think and compare in true sense.
The Vowels are treated separately as they are the base for any sound. Now we need to remember these 12 stars. We will make a song of it to sing in the classroom so that they will be always close to our hearts !
